About

Prairie Roots Wellness was born from the desire to connect people to the landscape. For some, that connection looks like learning the names of the plants and animals around us; for others it looks like nourishing our bodies through harvesting and foraging wild foods; or perhaps it simply looks like quieting the mind and tapping into the nurturing energy of the more-than-human world.

Prairie Roots Wellness believes that this connection is integral to our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We are honored to serve the mid-Missouri community by sharing our knowledge of plants, yoga, and meditation. Our events take place outdoors in near Columbia, Missouri. Times, dates, and locations are based on season and type of class. Check the calendar for up-to-date information!

Story behind Prairie Roots

On the spring equinox of 2022, Prairie Roots Wellness was born from a wild-hair, a “what if”, a “why not”, an experiment in dabbling with big ideas.

Sitting in the Atlantic coastal scrub, air thick with sweet sea salt, Heather Hobbs, founder of Harmony Yoga School, asked her students to dream: “How can you create a life you desire?” Gina Beebe was one of those students and took that question to heart. Gina’s soul-calling is to serve our ecological systems — no small task. As with most things, changing culture starts with education and connection. Prairie Roots Wellness hopes to move the needle. Though Prairie Roots Wellness may be a tiny drop in the bucket of change, we humbly hope to be a drop, nonetheless.

We should always be like a hummingbird. I may be insignificant, but I certainly don’t want to be like the animals watching the planet goes down the drain. I will be a hummingbird, I will do the best I can.”

Wangari Maathai

Gina has been a student of and/or has received great inspiration from countless yoga teachers, herbalists, cleavers, red pine, rhododendron, and red-bellied woodpeckers to name a few. She has a B.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Kansas, a M.S. in Forestry from the University of Missouri, a Permaculture Design Certification from Midwest Permaculture, and is a 500-hour registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. She is currently studying Vital Herbalism with Matthew Wood, Jolie Elan, Judith Hill, and Phyllis Light.
